Laser Technology

Short History of Laser Technology

Laser is an acronym, based upon the initial letters of the term „Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation“.

In 1960 Theodore Maiman built the first laser. This ruby laser had a low efficiency compared with our modern lasers. Then the progress of laser development brought us gas and dye lasers and recently fibre lasers which are used in many working environments today. Fibre lasers are special solid-state lasers with an extraordinary high quality laser beam and efficiency. They only require low maintenance and have got a compact design. Moreover they are robust, long-lasting and are easily cooled by air.
